フェルネット・コン・コカ
Fernet con coca is a drink mixing Fernet with a cola soft drink. The combination is described as becoming established in Argentina, particularly Córdoba Province, around the late 1980s, and is repeatedly mentioned as a cultural icon of the country. Multiple origin stories coexist: an account involving a bar patron in Cruz del Eje, Córdoba, and the manufacturer's own account of "a group of young people's ingenuity and marketing".

Reading the bitterness
Fernet con coca combines Fernet with a cola soft drink and is repeatedly mentioned as an Argentine cultural icon. A thesis consistently describes it as a mixture of Fernet and cola (bebida cola), but that thesis does not establish specific numbers such as the commonly cited mixing ratio.
One dominant account places its establishment in Córdoba Province around the late 1980s. A widely circulated origin story, reported by La Voz del Interior in 2004, attributes its invention to a bar patron in Cruz del Eje, Córdoba, nicknamed 『ネグロ・ベセラ』 (in translation: "Negro Becerra"). The manufacturer Fratelli Branca, however, explains it as the result of 『マーケティングに支えられた若者グループの創意』 (in translation: "the ingenuity of a group of young people supported by marketing"). The two accounts do not agree. Both are cited here secondhand from a thesis that organized existing news reports; the original articles have not been checked.
Fernet con coca is strongly associated with Córdoba Province, which features both as the setting of origin stories and as an area repeatedly described as a center of consumption. Córdoba Province and nearby cities have been reported to account for about a third of Fernet consumption within Argentina (a 2015 report based on 2013 Kantar Worldpanel data). Another article describes 『コルドバ市はアルゼンチンにおけるフェルネット消費のリーダー都市』 (in translation: "Córdoba city is the leading city for Fernet consumption in Argentina"), without numerical support.
A qualitative study, an undergraduate thesis at the University of Buenos Aires, analyzes the consumption of Fernet con coca as 『消費者のアイデンティティ構成』 (in translation: "the construction of consumer identity") linked to musical genre, class, and generational codes. It contrasts the style of 『イタリア人が元々そうしていたようにフェルネットを純粋に、量って飲む』 (in translation: "drinking Fernet neat and by measure, as Italians originally did") with Fernet con coca as a symbol of consumption by people on the urban margins appearing in lyrics of rock and cumbia villera, a cumbia subgenre that arose in the poorer neighborhoods (villas) of Buenos Aires. This is an undergraduate thesis, not a peer-reviewed journal article; it is a case analysis and does not claim quantitative representativeness.

Scope: Argentina
Note: All cited sources take it as given that this drink combines fernet with a cola soft drink. No source directly confirmed a specific mixing ratio (such as the colloquial 『90-10』 (in translation: "90–10")), so no ratio is recorded.
